Painted (en pleine air)by Jacqueline Read, on a hot summer's day. Oil on board 38cm x 20cm. I always stop in Chinon when driving in France and this time, I stayed a few days to paint with an artist friend. There's history re Jeanne of Arc, who was received by Charles VII in Chinon on 25th February 1429, aged only 17, she convinced the king to lend her troops to free Orleans from the English. Her sad end was to be burned at the stake in 1431.- I think as a witch - that was their excuse anyway.
